Expectations for The Princess and The Frog, too high?

Everyone is talking about how The Princess and the Frog will launch a renaissance in Disney feature animation. Are we placing our expectations too high and are therefore doomed to disappointment? Or do you think Walt Disney Animation Studios' team of all-stars can pull it out?

We're most definitely putting expectations high. But that's where they need to be. I want Disney to shoot for these high expectations and meet or exceed them. I don't know if this will lead to a new renaissance, but we can hope. And I do think they can pull it out, especially with the names working on this.

I think that the buzz is especially loud for this film because it has been seven years since an animated hit (Lilo and Stitch) and five years since ANY animated feature. Add that to the fact that this film features the first African-American princess, which is its own kettle of fish, so of course there is going to be extra hype and higher expectations. That being said, I think everyone at Disney animation knew that from the get-go and Musker, Clements and the all-star team that worked on this film will not let us down!

Yes, my expectations are high. But every time I've seen a preview, they grow higher. From what I've seen, I think it will be great.

Bruce Smith interview I just put up really makes me think that hopes aren't set too high -

I'm pretty excited about it. I hope it's not too "modern" you know? I just want a magical tale. Not a Shrek.

I'll probably have to go without my 3yo, tho'. The witchdoctor looks a little scary!

  7. I first found out they were making this movie when I saw the preview for it in the movies. And by the time the preview was finished I couldn't remember why I was there. I am so amazingly excited for this movie because I feel like it's been far too long since Disney has released an animated classic. I feel like this movie is going to bring Disney back to its roots, like this could be the new big Disney Classic, and I'm excited.

I think we are expecting just as much as we should be if not more. I am really fond of the more traditional animations. And every generation has to have it's classic which this will eventually be.

I agree with what's been posted, but I think that a huge aspect of people's hopes being so high is that this is a hand-drawn PRINCESS film! We all know how popular the Disney Princesses are. I am beyond excited for this film. I can already tell that it'll be one of my favorites- I've loved everything that I've seen and heard so far!

I JUST saw this last night-took it out of the local library. Wanted to see it on the big screen, but never got there. I LOVED it. Agreed, parts are a wee bit scarey for the younger crowd. The animation was amazing!
