Disney Lorcana, the new Disney-themed trading card game, is a hit, but as it goes into wide release at stores like Best Buy today, scalpers are already snapping the cards out of the hands of real fans, leading to a reprint to meet demand.
The Details
Disney Lorcana originally soft launched in local game stores, along with retail stores inside some Disney theme parks in August.
Today the game became available in big box stores, along with shopDisney, but scalpers were buying up everything while it was available last month, and reselling them for outrageous amounts.
Because of this, Ravensburger, Lorcana’s publisher, has posted to social media the following:
“Disney Lorcana TCG fans, we want to share the steps we’ve been working on to get more product into the market to meet demand.
Our goal is for fans to be able to purchase and enjoy the Disney Lorcana TCG product at the suggested retail price, and we will continue to take steps to ensure a level of availability and quality that keeps the market healthy for both collectors and players.
Additional booster product will start arriving in North American local game stores in October. We are also reprinting Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter, which will be available starting in Q1 2024 in North America and Europe.”
